Few things excite me more than a well-turned phrase, and I would be pleased to read and refine your written product until it reaches perfection.

Copyediting: Also known as editing, line editing, feedback, and (sometimes) proofreading. Here's the process:
  • I begin by reading written copy once through.
  • Then, I go through the work again with a critical eye and the track changes setting turned on (or a blue pen if it's a hard copy).
  • I then return the writing to the client for approval of the changes.
  • Finally, I will scan the copy one more time to catch any final errors.

What are some things I can copyedit? A mass e-mail to your clients. A short story your aunt wrote. A website that for which someone wrote the content themselves. A business report that also needs formatting. A novel. A brochure. A love note. If it's written down, I can edit it.

Copy writing: This is content writing for websites, brochures, newsletters, and the like. This begins with a conversation. The client and I meet or call to discuss the client's ideas and needs. I take notes and then return to my computer to begin typing. When I'm satisfied, I e-mail the final product (or a draft, depending on the arrangement) to the client.

Pricing varies by project length and other factors, and I discuss fees during the initial consultation with a client.

[Preferably, copyediting projects should be sent via e-mail (wordsmith@allisonhitzcopyediting.com) in an attachment as a Microsoft Word document. For proofreading projects, please alert me regarding the program or method you wish to use. If you live in the Everett, Washington, area, we can meet to exchange a hard copy. Snail mail is an option for any project, also; contact me for the mailing address.]
